Mallam's Tweed (1988 — 2003)

Tweedie, Tweedster, Tweedle-dee, Tweedle-dum, Mr. Tweed — these are names that Tweed responded to. He was a wonderful companion, loyal and gentle, ever present, a beautiful and dignified dog.

Some of you will remember him as this crazy out of control flyball wanna be who was more interested in herding the other dogs then chasing after any silly old ball. Herding was his passion — people, squirrels, vacuum cleaners, cars, OC Transpo buses, bicycles and joggers! He loved to swim and went nuts when I said let's go for a walk with Jesse, Quest and Klein.

The move to Lac Brassard in 1994, changed Mr. Tweed's life big time. He had room to roam and roam he did. The 'Stay' command took on a whole new meaning. Tweed also became the patient mentor of Jaz — even allowing him to win at tug of war from time to time. When Ms. Keefe joined the pack, Tweed was less playful but clearly the alpha.

In his later years his favourite spot was under the screened in porch. From this cool vantage point he could take care of business — watching the road and announcing visitors who happened down our lane.

As usual, Mr. Tweed hosted the annual doggie social event of the year — his birthday party August 22nd. Murphy, Oban, Tikka, Jaz and Ms. Keefe were in attendance with a gourmet meal complete with a variety of doggie hors d'oeuvres.

Sadly, on February 8th Mr. Tweed was struck with vestibular syndrome. Normally, this is not life threatening. However, due to Tweed's advanced arthritis in his hind quarters, it proved to be too much for him.

On February 19th, Mr. Tweed died quietly, leaving behind Jaz, age 6, Ms. Keefe, age 22 months and Joyce and Judith. He was a special soul who will be missed by all who knew him. Thanks to Edna Newman for gifting the world with Mr. Tweed. Tweed’s litter brother Tavish continues to bring joy to Edna’s life in Kemptville. They are sons of Mallam’s Kaz and Bonnie, whose photo can be seen on the OVBCC web site.
