Tucker
(1992-2002)

Tucker was born on March 18th, as the first of Eve's puppies.  His father was a working sheepdog in New England (sheepdog trials, sled dog races etc.)  Elisabeth and Julia waited from the very early morning (around four o'clock) for the puppies to arrive, since Eve had started to be unquiet and walk about.  While the table was being laid for breakfast, Eve was heard to begin frantically digging in the whelping box among the newspapers: Tucker had arrived and Eve had dealt with him all on her own.  He was very dark and had a whtie splash of white on his muzzle so he was nicknamed "little Jock", after the Roses' first dog.  He was not only the first born, but also the first one to be interested in the outside world, and the first to climb out of the whelping box.  The Roses were very glad that he was chosen by Charlotte because they knew her to be a dedicated Border Collie owner, and he also had Missy as a companion.

Tucker was a dog who never gave less than 110%.  He was always very and willing to try anything.  One my favorite memories of Tucker was when he was taken to his first flyball tournament.  The tournament was very loud and chaotic and Tucker was completely overwhelmed until he realized what was going on there - FLYBALL!  From then on, he was completely focused and would drag poor Charlotte with all his might so that he could play.  He earned both his Flyball Dog and Flyball Dog Excellent titles that weekend.  Tiffany and Charlotte also decided that Tucker's pulling power should not go to waste so they took him sledding.  Unlike many other dogs, Tucker did not turn into "doggy popcorn" and try to bounce himself away from the lines.  He was dead serious and knew what he had to do.  His second time out, he acted as lead dog and even in this stressful position, looked like an old pro.

It was with great sadness that the members of the OVBCC learned that Tucker left the world at such a young age (only three years old) after suffering from several seizures.  He was a very good natured dog, and his zest for life made him an enthusiastic and quality participant in agility, flyball, sledding, sheep herding, and dog walks.  He was always an enthusiastic cheerleader for his pal Missy while she was on the agility field.  He will be missed by all members of the OVBCC, but most especially by Charlotte, Richard, and Missy.
