Border Collies are relative newcomers to the discipline of search dogs.  Labradors, German Shepherds and Springer Spaniels are more frequently used but recently the qualities of the Border Collie have been recognized.

The Border Collie is much easier to motivate, and will concentrate for long periods of time.  Physically they are easier to cope with than the large and heavy German Shepherd, especially when working in small or confined areas.  Their obsessive nature is useful, if correctly channeled in training, providing keenness and an ever-ready enthusiasm to work.
